32nd District Democrats Nominating Convention

Speakers: Guillaume Mauger and Doug Howell

Humans are releasing over 30 billions tons per year of atmospheric CO2 and substantial amounts of other pollutants that are affecting the climate and also the ocean and the land. The speakers will cover the current science that studies climate effects of this pollution and actions needed to address it.

Guillaume Mauger is a climate scientist with the UW Climate Impacts Group studying concrete, identifiable changes resulting from climate change. He also studies what we can do to minimize the impacts of climate change, and provides scientific advice to citizen groups. He will talk about the current science of climate change and measures to address it, including the Federal legislation dealing with CO2 emissions.

Doug Howell is the Campaign Director for the Sierra Club's NW Beyond Coal campaign. He has an extensive background in climate change and energy policy and is on the forefront of efforts to promote the move away from fossil fuels, especially coal, to clean alternatives. He will discuss Washington State issues, including current negotiations between the Governor and TransAlta (owner of the Centralia coal plant), and related legislation.
